I love seafood and am always on the look out for a good fish market to buy my seafood from. In Milton, the options are slim. I usually end up getting frozen seafood which just doesn’t hit the spot! I recently discovered Huong Trang Fish Market at the Hamilton Farmers’ Market.  If you haven’t been to the Hamilton Farmers’ Market, you are missing out! This indoor market is opened all year round and you can find everything from meats, fish, produce, coffee and even a few stalls serving ready made food!  It is always so lively in here, no matter what time of the year it is, it is always bustling with happy faces!
Huong Trang Fish Market started in 1989 and the current owners are the second generation owner/operator. Huong, the Mom of this amazing family business used to work for the previous owner and fell in love with the job so she took over when he passed it on. Huong’s parents were in the seafood business back home as well.  (So these guys know what they are talking about!!)  If you are wondering about the name of the fish market, It is the combination of Huong’s first name and her eldest child’s first name (Trang). She knew little English when she first started so when she had to come up with a business name, she went with her old boss’ idea of having his wife and eldest child’s name on their signage.  I love how they kept it simple and to the roots of the family!
Huong Trang Fish market is full of amazing fresh and frozen seafood. You can get large juicy shrimp, fresh bass, and the best tasting salmon EVER! A family favourite include using their shrimp for a simple shrimp and veggie stir fry.
They also have an amazing fresh house cut daily salmon and very flavourful wild caught shrimp (that doesn’t shrink like crazy once it is cooked!)  Some other products you can get from them include Caribbean lobster tails,
king crab legs, snow crab clusters, whole fresh fish, oysters, white, black tiger, and USA wild shrimp, and tons more. If you are looking for something specific, special requests are available with 3 days notice.

I was so excited to bring some of the seafood home to try out! I created three different dishes : Chinese Ginger & Onion Steamed Bass, Shrimp Scampi, and Salmon Wellington (oh and I also made a seafood stock).  The quality of the seafood from Huong Trang Fish Market was exceptional.  Everything was very fresh, no slim, no smell at all! You can taste and see how good everything was. If you are a seafood fan, I would highly recommend you check them out! I am not sure how I can go back to frozen supermarket seafood! I guess I have to make frequent trips to the Hamilton Farmers’ Market from now on!!




If you are planning to visit, keep in mind they are only opened Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  And an insider tip, if you park in the parking lot at 28 York, you can get your parking validated at the farmers’ market for one hour!
