Cooking with CBD oil: The Basics

Cooking with cbd oil - the basic

CBD aka cannabidiol is a found in cannabis and it is the non-psychoactive part of cannabis. So pretty much if you use CBD oil, it won’t make you high. The component that does make you high is THC. If you are looking for cannabis products that won’t make you high, make sure you look for products with only CBD and no THC.

I don’t have any interest in getting high so I have never used any THC products. It is not my jam, but if you choose to use products with THC, do your research and find the right products for you!  I have heard so many good things about CBD oils, from how to use CBD for anxiety and helping depression, to managing pain. I have even heard people using opioids for pain that have successfully switched over to cannabis products to help their pain.   I am a firm believer of using natural products to make you feel better. My purse is full of essential oils instead of pills so I was super excited to try CBD oil and more excited to incorporate it into recipes.  Who doesn’t want to eat cake that also makes your headache go away, right? So how does CBD oil actually work? Well, let me begin by telling you that I am not a doctor or a scientist. I have done my research online so if you are not sure if this product is right for you, talk to your doctor and do your own research. In a nutshell, CBD impacts receptor activities in our bodies which reduces inflammation and pain as it interacts with our neurotransmitters. To give you my personal experience, I had a killer headache one day, I tried to drink lots of water and napping to make better but nothing was working. I took two small drops of CBD oil under my tongue and 20 minutes later, I was a brand new person. I have also used it for my menstrual pain and it worked like magic! (why haven’t I discovered this earlier?)

Next question you might ask is, how do I take CBD oil? You can buy it in an oil format with a dropper and you can dispense a drop under your tongue and let it soak in. This is the fastest way for the CBD oil to kick in. You can also mix it in with body lotion and apply it to parts of your body that is sore or in pain. Some people even put it in their face cream, claiming that it can help you look younger by reducing fine lines.  And the most interesting way (in my opinion), is adding it to your food!

Here are a few tips on using CBD oils in your next recipe!

  • You can pretty much add it to any cooked food that you would drizzle oil on, so think salad dressing, pasta, pizza, etc
  • You can add it to your smoothies, coffee, tea to give you a boost from the start of your day
  • Infuse it into butter and use the butter (make sure you infuse is slowly and on very low heat – don’t worry I will share a recipe)
    • once you have the butter made, you can use it pretty much however you like from topping your popcorn to adding it into your brownies!

The main thing to note when you cook with CBD oil is to make sure you do not heat it over 350 F. When you heat is over 350 F, the beneficial components start to cook out of it and you are just wasting your money at that point! So no deep frying with CBD oil!
