A cookbook is so much more than a book. A great cookbook gives any casual reader instant motivation to try its recipes with simple and clear instructions. It makes something *click* in the back of your head the moment you crack open the book and see their beautiful food photos. In their own big way, a great cookbook is magical.
Recently, Appetite by Random House sent me a copy of Yogurt Every Day by Hubert Cormier to check out. Author Hubert Cormier is a registered dietitian from Quebec and studied how yogurt can lead to a healthier living. I’m a big fan of yogurt, and an even bigger fan of its health benefits. And strangely enough, I got a stuck when thinking of ways to incorporate yogurt into all meals of the day.
The book had recipes featuring yogurt in every meal and even snacks! Exactly what I was looking for. The pictures in this book are beautiful, recipes are clear and easy to understand (and execute), and the book’s contents are laid out perfectly which make finding the recipes effortless . Quite frankly, it checked off all the boxes for a great cookbook.
And what do you do when you come across a great cookbook with new recipes? You get into the kitchen, and start experimenting! I set out to try the Hubert Cormier’s Yogurt Pancake and Yogurt Smoothie recipes. So how did it go, you ask?
Trial 1: Hubert Cormier’s Yogurt Pancakes. Verdict: Fluffy, beautiful goodness
I loved the fluffiness of these yogurt pancakes. They didn’t have the doughiness that have previously marred my other pancakes. This one’s a hit. Very easy to make, even easier to eat, and the leftovers kept very well in the fridge for the next few days. I’ll definitely be making these again. Breakfast game has been stepped up.
Trial 2: The Yogurt Smoothie. Verdict: Delicately perfect.
I love all kinds of smoothies and always love to experiment with different ingredients. But this yogurt smoothie is something special. The yogurt gave the smoothie a perfect balance between the sweet fruits and the rest of the accompanying ingredients. It truly hit the spot. Welcome to my breakfast menu, Mr. Yogurt Smoothie.
Trial 3: Homemade Yogurt. Verdict: Ongoing! And would you believe it. In this book, Hubert Cormier demystifies the yogurt creation secret, and breaks down step-by-step on how to make your own- how cool is that? I have yet to try out the recipe because I am searching high and low for a good yogurt starter (if you know where I can get one, please let me know!).
This cook book is a must have for any foodie. It is one of those key staple books that you need to have on your bookshelf.
