The Milton Ice Cream Lab: Beat the Heat with SCIENCE and liquid nitrogen!

The newly-established Milton Ice Cream Lab opened just in time for the scorching hot weather that we’ve been getting in here in Ontario!  So what makes Milton Ice Cream Lab so different from any other ice cream store? Well…for one thing, all of their ice cream is made in front of your very eyes, in seconds.  Toss in some good wholesome ingredients with NO preservatives and NO additives in it (yay!!), mix together the cream base, toppings of your choice, then blast it with the freezing cold, liquid nitrogen!  Science!

Liquid nitrogen, which you may remember as the letter ‘N’ on your periodic table of elements, is super cold.  Like, -320° Fahreinheit/-195° Celsius cold.  Since it freezes so quickly, the ice cream that it produces doesn’t have time to form ice crystals.  The end result: super smooth, delicious, unadulterated ice cream that is made-to-order instantly!  Conventional ice cream has nothing on this.

Step 1: Pick a size, kids ($3), regular ($4.50) and large ($6 – it’s really large!)

Step 2: Pick which cream base you would like. You can choose from premium (23% fat), regular (18%), low fat (10%), lactose free, and dairy free!

Step 3: Pick three toppings from the Ice Cream Lab’s wide range of options, including Nutella, chocolate chips, Skor, strawberry… you can even bring your own ingredients to mix into the ice cream, and conjure up the next greatest ice cream flavour!  En guarde, Baskin-Robbins!

Just amazing.  If you can’t decide on a flavour and just want to get the darned ice cream ASAP there’s also a list of suggested favourites! My personal favourite is the Ice Cream Lab’s Strawberry Shortcake ice cream flavour.  But then again, how can you go wrong with a classic Banana Split (banana, chocolate syrup, strawberries and pineapple), or the campfire classic S’mores (chocolate, marshmallow, and graham cracker). For the more daring ice cream lover – they even have a super cool flavour called Baconator with bacon and maple syrup (“I’ll Be Back Bacon”. Heh).

Founders Yvonne and Sean along with their children (they’re all cartoonified on their super cute logo) provide great service along with their staff at the Milton Ice Cream Lab!
