It is summer in Canada and everywhere you turn, you will see some amazing in season cherries! They are sweet, full of flavours and most of us just can’t get enough. If you are like me and end up buying so many bags of cherries, a great recipe to make is this easy summer cherry cobbler. This is a very easy and quick to make recipe that will surely wow your family and friends!

So how do you Make Cherry Cobbler from Scratch?

Have you tasted the most amazing cherry cobbler and wondered how you can create your very own version at home? Like I said, this is a very simple recipe. You only need a few ingredients that are likely in your home already (flour, butter, sugar, milk, baking powder and cherries!

What types of cherries can be used for the cobbler?

Fresh is always best! But if you have a craving for a cherry cobbler and cherries are not in season, you can always use frozen or canned cranberries. Another tip, you can buy cherries in season during the summer, pit them and freeze them. This way you can have the freshest frozen cherries for your cobbler.

How to Make Easy Summer Cherry Cobbler

Total Time 1 hour 10 minutes

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup cake flour (or regular flour)
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 cups pitted fresh cherries
  • 1 TBSP all purpose flour

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C)
  • In a 9x9 inch square pan, put in 1/2 cup butter and leave in preheating oven for 5 minutes until melted
  • Remove pan from oven once all the butter is melted.
  • In a bowl, add milk, flour, sugar, baking powder and mix thoroughly.
  • Pour flour and milk mixture over melted butter (no need to mix)
  • In another bowl, add pitted cherries with remaining flour, toss lightly
  • Add cherry mixtures on top of the flour and milk mixture (no need to mix)
  • Bake for 60 minutes until edges turn golden brown
  • Let cool a little and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Notes

Tips: 
  • If you want to freeze this recipe, cut into individual slices and freeze individually (in containers or zip lock bags) 
  • reheat frozen pieces in the oven for about 10 minutes at 375 F
  • If you don't have cherries, you can use any type of berries you like (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)
