Homemade Poke Bowl Recipe

Poke means “chopped up” and it is a very popular dish from Hawaii! I love poke and honestly I can eat it for every meal!  What I love about poke is that you can really customize it to your liking.  I am going to break it down for you so you can add whatever you like!  I will also include one of my favourite homemade poke recipe.  Here we go!



Base:

  • white rice
  • brown rice
  • spinach
  • mix green lettuce
  • quinoa
  • zucchini noodles or any veggie noodles you like

Veggies (Pick as many as you like): 

  • carrots
  • pickled ginger
  • edamame
  • cucumber
  • beansprouts
  • cabbage
  • kale
  • spinach
  • bell peppers
  • avocado
  • radish
  • green onions
  • jalapenos

As you can see, the possibilities are endless!

Protein: 

  • Sushi grade salmon or tuna
  • Regular cooked salmon, tuna, or whatever fish you like
  • Chicken
  • Thinly sliced beef
  • Shrimp
  • If you are vegetarian, you can use tofu or just load it up with more veggies!
  • Imitation crab meat

Sauce: 

  • Spicy mayo (mayo + sirarcha)
  • Basic soy (Light soy sauce + sesame seed oil + Rice vinegar)

Give it a try and see what combination you like best! You can never get bored of poke because every bowl can be different!

Homemade Poke Bowl Recipe

Homemade Poke Bowls

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups cooked white rice
  • 1/4 cup imitation crab shredded
  • 1/2 cubed carrots
  • 1/2 cubed cucumbers
  • 1 yellow bell peppers
  • 1/2 cup edamame
  • 2 oz salmon (Marinate salmon with soy and sesame seed oil before cooking)
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 3 drops sesame sauce
  • 1 tsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp white sugar

Instructions
 

  • Marinate salmon with a little light soy sauce and sesame oil
  • Cook Salmon in oven set at 350 F for about 7 minutes (timing might be different if your salmon is thicker or thinner. Use your discretion and check)
  • In a large bowl, assemble bowl with a bed of rice
  • On top of rice, add imitation crab, carrots, cucumbers, bell pepper, edamame and cooked salmon
  • In a small bowl, mix together light soy sauce, sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, and sugar. Pour over poke bowl or dip ingredients into the soy sauce mixture as you eat!
