Have you ever thought of turning your backyard into your own vegetable garden? Maybe you’ve also wanted to learn how to butcher meat, brew your own beer, and make deli-quality sausages! Of course you have! Then look no further than the Minga Skill Building Hub! Minga’s well-traveled founder, Ami Dehne, created this grassroots organization to help locals tap the local knowledge of their community. Minga puts local residents in connection with local experts to fuel bustling, knowledge-based community. Ami loves how Minga brings people together and fosters tightly-knit communities.
I recently checked out the “Planning a Successful Home Garden” class at Zocalo Organics farm in Erin, Ontario. Local farming experts Bethany and Seb taught us everything from getting started on your garden, to planning the layout.
My favourite part of the workshop was the tour of the farm and the hands on lesson in the greenhouse.
Bethany and Seb have a beautiful farm and their organic produce are sold in the Guelph’s Farmers’ Market, through the CSA (Community Share Agriculture) and they also supply to local restaurants. Make sure you check out their produce if you have a chance! We got a sneak peak of their seedlings sprouting away in the greenhouse!
I love the idea of Minga’s community classes. It was great to meet other people who have the same interest as you. I learned a tonne from this Minga workshop and it was great to be able to interact with the instructors and ask questions and actually receive live, helpful answers! It’s rare we get this sort of education nowadays with the internet and YouTube being your go-to educators.
I would highly recommend you checking out one of the many Minga Skill Building Hub classes!
Thank you Ami for having me! Looking forward to attending more classes in the future!
