So for the next couple of weeks, I will be sharing some of my favourite kitchen tools, gadgets, and appliances that I feel are must haves in every kitchen! Follow along, comment below on what are your must haves!
Let’s get started…
If you know me, I have probably raved to you in person or online about how much I love the Instant Pot! I got it last year on a Black Friday sale on Amazon.ca and it has CHANGED.MY.LIFE!
This is not just any pressure cooker, this thing makes cooking so much easier and faster, you seriously need to buy one today!
Just to give you a quick run down of the Instant Pot, I have the 7 in 1, 6 quart, 1000w version. It claims it is 7 kitchen appliances in 1, Pressure Cooker, Slow Cooker, Rice Cooker, Steamer, Sauté, Yogurt Maker and Warmer. To me the “Warmer” function is nice to keep the dish warm, but not really a separate appliance in my mind. I do love the sauté option where you can sauté ingredients before you deglaze the pan. This really keeps the flavour in one pot and one less pot to clean is always a bonus.
The Instant Pot also features 14 Smart Programs – Soup, Meat/Stew, Bean/Chili, Poultry, Sauté/Simmer, Rice, Multigrain, Porridge, Steam, Slow Cook, Keep Warm, Yogurt, Manual, and Pressure Cook. This is no old school pressure cooker that you have to worry about exploding. They have safety mechanism built-in that prevents this from happening and it does not cook on your stove top, it is actually electrical.
The actual pot is a nice big stainless steel pot that is very easy to clean by hand or you can throw it into your dishwasher for even easier clean up.
My favourite feature about the Instant Pot is how easy it is to use and how you can set it to the pressure and time you want and go do other things while it is making a delicious healthy dinner. One great example of this is making risotto. We all know, traditionally you have to sweet over your stove and pay 100% attention to stirring and adding stock. Watching it like a hawk. The Instant pot, you just throw all your ingredients into the pot, set it to manual for 7 minutes, and viola, you have PERFECT risotto that even Gordon Ramsay will be happy with.
Another no fail recipe is making stock in the Instant Pot. Whether you are making chicken, beef, or veggie stock, it really doesn’t get any easier. Again, just throw all your ingredients into the pot and set manual to 30 minutes. Leave it and come back to it when it beeps and you have amazingly flavourful broth.
Really, every recipe you make, the time will be cut down significantly. You don’t even have to soak beans over night to cook. And if you ever forget to defrost your meats (guilty almost daily!), you can put frozen meat into your instant pot. Just cook it a little longer and the results are perfect!
Apparently you can also make cakes and yogurt in this magical pot as well! I haven’t tried those recipes, but the Instant Pot haven’t failed me yet.
If you are looking to buy one as a Holiday, Birthday gift or simply just for yourself, I have included an affiliate link below from Amazon.ca!
