G&L: The Best Portuguese Restaurant in Oakville

G&L European Cuisine Oakville

I love discovering restaurants that serves delicious made from scratch ethnic foods! It’s hard work opening and running a restaurant but when you see a small mom and pop shop opening up serving real food, I get so excited and want to share with the world!

G&L European Cuisine is located in Oakville tucked away in a small plaza next to a skiing equipment shop and an army surplus shop. You might not notice this restaurant but it is quite the hidden gem!  The restaurant served Italian and Portuguese food for many years and owners Geno & Mila took over November of 2017 and changed the name to G&L but they are still serving delicious Italian and Portuguese cuisine!

“Geno , the chef and owner, worked as a cook from a very young age in Israel. When he moved to Canada, he worked many jobs but always wanted to open a place of his own in the town of Oakville, where he settled with his family. Finally, in November 2017, his dream became a reality when he opened his own little place of Italian and Portuguese cuisine.”

Portuguese and Italian cuisine are extremely diverse. They serve a lot of meat dishes but also many seafood specials on Fridays. Their portions are generous and very filling.  The best part is that all their dishes are cooked from scratch (no artificial colors, flavors, additives or preservatives) and they use some of the freshest ingredients.  You can check out their amazing specials page here.

Some of their most popular dishes include:

veal sandwich G&L European food

Italian style Sandwiches (breaded veal cutlet, thinly sliced steak, meatball or chicken Parmesan) are served on a Kaiser bun with tomato sauce and can be topped with a variety of extra flavors to suit your taste.

Cabbage Rolls: Generous hand-made cabbage rolls are cooked and stuffed with rice and ground pork.   Comforting and nutritious meal.

Chicken Dinner: All of their chicken dinners are served with 2 sides of your choice: rice, potatoes, fries, or garden salad. served with our home-made lightly spiced sauce.

Panzerotti: is baked with your choice of filling and topped with cheese.

Meat lasagna: made in house with combination of ground beef and ground chicken, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Chicken Parmigiana: Breaded chicken cutlet topped with melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses served with your choice of spaghetti or penne pasta. Comes with 2 pieces of garlic bread.

I was lucky enough to try their amazing Italian style sandwich with veal! The sandwich was full of flavour and it was huge!!  I love how you can add toppings to the sandwich and make it your own! (Toppings include sauteed mushrooms, sauteed green peppers, sauteed red peppers, cooked onions, roasted jalapeno peppers and are all $0.75 each) My favourite part of the sandwich was the kaiser bun. It was crunchy but had a nice soft interior that makes eating this sandwich so enjoyable! No one likes to eat a sandwich that cuts their mouth because the bread is so hard! The sandwich is also very well priced at $6 for the veal, steak or meatball and $8 for the chicken Parmesan.

I also tried their chicken dinner served with rice and potatoes. Again, the portion size was fantastic and you can easily eat it for two meals if you don’t have a huge appetite!  The chicken was nicely cooked, fully of flavour and best of all, still nice and juicy which is essential to a good chicken dish in my opinion!

They also serve beers and soft drinks from Italy and Portugal. It is always so fun to try the different drinks other countries have to offer!  The guava Sumol drink from Portugal was amazing! Super refreshing and tasty! They are fully licensed so you can grab beer, wine, and spirits while you munch as well!

  1. Well well! Went there with a friend who recommended this place to us and I was mighty surprised. I have never been a high end foodie but I am completely happy having gone to G & L Restaurant.
