Downtown Oakville’s newest food hot spot: Fuego Tapas Bar

The west end of Ontario’s Golden Horseshoe has been seeing an insane amount of growth.  And with growth, comes hungry locals.  And that’s where Fuego Tapas Bar comes in!  Located in the heart of downtown Oakville, Chef Stephanie Brewster and her husband Shawn have brought their love of Spanish tapas to the west end of Toronto.

If you think you’ve heard Chef Stephanie Brewester’s name before, you’re certainly not imagining things.  Chef Brewster was the winner of the first Chopped Canada in 2014 on Food Network Canada.  Stephanie wears many hats, from chef, to teacher (she taught at Fanshawe), and now successful restaurateur.

After travelling to Spain, Stephanie and Shawn fell in love with Spanish tapas.  And thank goodness they did, because after finding their newfound love of tapas they made it their life mission to bring the flavours of the Iberian Peninsula to Oakville, with Fuego officially opening its doors in 2016.

For the uninitiated- “tapas” is a Spanish cuisine that involves a wide variety appetizers and snacks.  I love this idea because the smaller, varied portions mean that you can try everything.  Combine that with Fuego’s carefully-curated menu, and you’ve got yourself something amazing.  Most of the times I look at a menu and just want everything, but here at Fuego I can have everything.

Enough talk.  On with the food.  Here are some of the delicious tapas that you can find at Fuego:

Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus
Seared Scallops
Candied Bacon
Crispy Pork Belly
Chocolate con Churros
This was so good, it deserves two pictures!

Carne Y Queso Board

And the one last thing I love about Fuego: their artful approach to the food.  Each and every item on the menu is a piece of carefully-assembled art. Just look at the above photos.  The plating is gorgeous for each plate and almost (just almost) looks too pretty to eat.  I really can’t pick a favourite dish here because honestly, everything was so damned good.  The presentation. The variety.  The careful selection of each and every ingredient.  Bring your family and friends here, everyone will find something they love and you will leave happy and satisfied.  Chef Stephanie Brewster’s a stand-up gal with a sharp palate, and her menu reflects that.
