You know the saying: “We eat with our eyes first”. And now the saying probably goes: your Instagram feed eats first! And I found out all about this from the last Foodies on Foot event when Steven (the Owner of Foodies on Foot) gave us a delicious cookie from Brulee Bakery Co. I was immediately hooked. Beautiful, ornate gold design. Perfectly-manicured trim atop a delicate, artisanal shortbread cookie. It was almost too pretty to eat (which admittedly took a lot of willpower, from me).
Once I got home, I frantically searched up this unfamiliar name and found out that Brulee Bakery makes jaw-droppingly gorgeous shortbread cookies that are deserving of their own installation at the AGO. In a lot of cases, things look far better than they taste,-but not these cookies. They have stunningly-good looks and incredible flavour and mouth-feel. It’s a double threat on the cookie performance theatre.
So what’s so special about these shortbread cookies? For starters, they’re beautifully hand-crafted by Brulee Bakery’s Kristen Manza. Kristen makes these cookies fresh and to-order. From the classic plain shortbread cookie to unique, secretive flavours like Chai, lavender, dried edible flowers you’ll find cookie options aplenty, here. Delicate, but not overpowering. Made with real butter, and organic vanilla extract. Each bite just melts in your mouth. Word on the street is they are even considering making their own butter – talk about dedication to quality and craft. “Shortening”? Never. Artificial flavouring? Absolutely none of that, here. Added colouring? Nonsense, at the Brulee Bakery. Brulee Bakery commits to the highest quality and best baked goods. Never baked bads. They go the extra mile at this place, and you can taste it.
And then there’s the chocolate. You see, there are two types of “chocolate” in our world. There’s the store-bought stuff that tastes like a block of waxy-sugar. But then there’s the real deal. And Brulee Bakery delivers on the real deal. With chocolates that are made with amazing ingredients and natural sweetness that puts you on a cloud, Brulee Bakery’s real Belgian chocolate are miles ahead of the mass-produced, grocer-variety. So delicious!
Kristen is a true artist and her creativity really shines through in her cookies. Kristen gets inspired by everything from art to daily things she sees strolling through Toronto. When she feels inspired, she tries to translate them into her cookies and chocolates. Some of my favourites are the vintage stamped cookies, which are perfect for a wedding or baby shower and also the beautiful gold leaf and gold frame – so classy!
Are you drooling and dying to try these treats out? You can order Kristen’s cookies through Etsy. And if you love a good deal as much as I do, Brulee Bakery’s currently offering 2 cookie packs for $10 plus shipping! Normally they’re $6.99 each. Check out this amazing deal here.
